What is urgent care?

Urgent care is the service required when you have a health problem that can’t wait for a regular doctor’s appointment but isn’t so serious that you need to visit the emergency room. It forms part of the comprehensive primary care services that Fountain of Youth Medspa provides.

What conditions are classed as urgent care?

If your problem can’t wait a few days, it’s probably an urgent care case. Typical issues that people need urgent care for include:

• Insect bites
• Injuries requiring a tetanus shot
• Strep throat
• Minor wounds
• Asthma attacks (unless severe)
• Eye infections or irritations
• Flu and colds
• Fractured toes or fingers
• Moderately painful back injuries

• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Dehydration

If you aren’t in immediate need and could manage for several days without causing yourself undue pain or risking making the problem worse, then you should probably make a routine appointment.

Can urgent care cover emergencies?

While Fountain of Youth Medspa’s urgent care service provides outstanding care for urgent conditions, there are times when you should visit the ER instead.

If you’ve broken a limb and there’s a bone protruding from the skin (known as a compound fracture), or you sustain a knife or gunshot wound, it will be obvious that you need emergency treatment. Other symptoms that also deserve immediate attention include:

• Convulsions or seizures
• Severe abdominal pain
• Losing consciousness
• Moderate to severe burns
• Serious head, neck, or back injuries
• Symptoms of stroke
• Paralysis
• Severe chest pain
• Severe breathing difficulties
• Feeling suicidal

If you visit urgent care with these problems, they’ll immediately send you to the hospital.

How quickly will I be seen with an urgent care problem?
